Spelling bee at Crabtree Valley Mall this Saturday

Local students will have the chance this Saturday to show off their spelling skills and possibly secure a spot in the Macy’s Spelling Bee Finals in New York City.

Macy’s is holding its fifth annual Spelling Bee competition in 29 store locations across the country, including Crabtree Valley Mall (4325 Glenwood Ave in Raleigh) on Saturday, Aug. 28. Each winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to New York to participate in the Final Spelling Bee at Macy’s Herald Square. They’ll also win a year of online learning from Kaplan Tutoring and a $150 gift card from Scholastic.

The Macy’s Spelling Bee is open to the first 50 children, ages 8 to 10, who register onsite the day of the event. Registration will begin at noon, and the competition will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m.

The finals will be held in New York Sunday, Sept. 26 at Macy’s Herald Square at 2 p.m. The winner of the final competition will receive a $5,000 Kaplan Tutoring scholarship, a $500 gift card from Scholastic and an all-inclusive trip for a family of four to the Franklyn D.
